Location: Tbilisi [Republic of Georgia]
Week 75 of travel. Let’s get into it….
Transportation
On Saturday, I went to look at an AirBnB: $0.18. I used the metro to get there and back, but since the trips were so close together, it only charged me once. I love Georgia!
On Monday, I moved into an AirBnB. To get there, I took a taxi: $1.38. Since the friend I moved in with wasn’t awake at the check-in time, I then took the metro back to the hostel to pick him up: $0.18. When he woke up, we took another cab out to the AirBnB: $0.54 for my portion. And all the back and forth was only $2.10! Thanks Yandex (taxi app) and Georgia.
Accommodation
Friday to Sunday was at a hostel: $3.62 per night.
On Monday, I moved into an AirBnB with a friend: $6.67 per night. I typically find that hostels are better for solo travel while AirBnBs are better if there are a few people, and you’re going to be staying somewhere for a month or more.
Travel hack: If you stay in an AirBnB for more than 28 days, you can typically find substantial discounts. In the above mentioned instance, the stay was discounted 30% due to the length!
Food
I spent most of the week finishing off my groceries. Then on Wednesday, I went on that dreaded first shopping trip in a new place. The one where you buy all those miscellaneous things that last for a long time, but make your cooking so much nicer. Anyone that’s moved to a new place should know what I’m talking about.
Other
Travel insurance: $5.03 per day.
VPN: $0.26 per day.
Amazon Prime: $0.33 per day.
This blog: $0.31 per day.
Skype: $0.08 per day.
Chase Sapphire Reserve: $0.41 per day.
Pimsleur’s Russian: $0.71 per day.
On Wednesday, I renewed my pay-as-you-go, local phone contract: $0.36. I almost never call or text anyone, so that plan makes sense. It’s primarily there to enable me to buy mobile data which is also pretty cheap.
Also on Wednesday, I bought a cutting board: $3.47. The kitchen in the AirBnB has most things, but it was lacking one of those.
More on Wednesday, I bought 4 rolls of toilet paper: $1.88. Because…well…everyone poops, and I’m not in a hostel where they provide this for you. Also, there’s no bidet. I’m looking forward to trying one of those when I’m in a place people use them. It’ll probably be a while though….

This is fantastic! I’m pretty sure this is the least I’ve spent in a month since I started traveling 1.5 years ago. მიყვარს საქართველო (I love you Georgia)! It’s not just the money though. This place is all-around fantastic. If you’re looking for ideas on where to spend your next vacation, here you go. See you all next week….
